Job Title: Mechanical Technician
Location: Devonport
Responsible To: Leading Hand (Mechanical)
Salary: £27,000-£32,000
The Mechanical Technician is responsible to the Leading Hand (Mechanical) for undertaking safe and efficient maintenance of mechanical machinery and systems aboard the ferries and ashore to ensure maximum service delivery levels.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Complete planned maintenance and defect rectification on all mechanical equipment and systems, the chain system, the ferry hull and associated structures and fittings in the ferries
  • Complete planned maintenance and defect rectification activity within the shore infrastructure
  • To provide specialised technical training required for the safe and correct operation of the ferry on board mechanical systems that is outside the skill set of the Ferry Mechanical Trainers
  • To advise and update the Ferry Mechanical Assistant Trainers of any changes to the on-board mechanical systems and advise of any malpractices that occur
  • Deputise for Maintenance Assistant (Plant Operator) driving the tractor and operating associated attachments in their absence
Experience & qualifications required:
  • Completion of a relevant marine based engineering qualification – City & Guilds Engineering Level 1, 2 or 3 preferred
  • Experience working in a maintenance/repair environment, working to strict policies and procedures
  • Must have a thorough working knowledge of complex engineering workshop machinery and safety precautions
  • Ability to undertake welding and fabricating
  • A thorough understanding of the interpretation of engineering drawings
