Job Title: Technical Manager
Location: Devonport
Responsible To: Ferry Manager
Salary: £39,000-£43,500
Providea safe, reliable and efficient service by ensuring that the ferries and ferry infrastructure (chains and gantries) are maintained in sound condition and meet the safety and maintenance standards required by Lloyds Register and the Marine Coastguard Agency (MCA).
Responsible for all technical staff, workshops, equipment, stores and procurement. Ensure that all safety regulations and standards are adhered to.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage the ferry maintenance team in line with the organisation’s policies and procedure
  • Set, monitor and manage priorities related to all planned maintenance and defect rectification activity afloat and ashore of the maintenance team
  • Ensure that all tasks are carried out in accordance with current Health and Safety regulations
  • Manage and administer the Marine Planned Maintenance System (MPMS)
  • Utilise the MPMS, SysAid defect reporting systems, and other data sources, to establish and analyse ferry material state, and produce intervention measure proposals/actions as required to maximise service availability
  • Plan and co-ordinate the inspections and maintenance of the ferries by outside agencies
  • Ensure that all workshop equipment, yard machinery and the tractor/mechanical handler are well maintained and correctly operated by trained personnel.
Experience & Qualifications required:
  • Formal qualification in relevant engineering discipline and/or technical HND/Degree or NVQ Level 4 or 5
  • Must hold IOSH, Management qualification NVQ Level 4 or 5 or equivalent experience & a First Aid Qualification
  • Significant experience of mechanical and electrical engineering systems and workshop practices
  • Experience working in a similar marine environment in a management capacity
  • Understand the important of the Ferry Service to the local community and the wider economy
