Health & Safety Manager

I’m seeking an experienced Senior Planner to join a large major nuclear energy project, working on infrastructure schemes in Liverpool.

You will join an existing project initially, and then move on to a new nuclear project within the Natural Resources, Nuclear & Networks business unit.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the planning to deliver an NEC option C contract to build an RC frame building
  • Produce programmes for acceptance
  • Analyse project metrics, in particular rates of work
  • Support the commercial team
  • Evaluate supply chain and subcontract programmes
  • Develop the content and structure for tender programmes as required

Applicants but possess the following:

  • Must have NEC contract-based planning experience, within the UK.
  • Will have familiar RC frame-building knowledge
  • Minimum of 5 years of planning experience, within construction, nuclear or similar
  • Previous construction experience, across a wide range of engineering projects, with a good understanding of commercial and contractual matters.
  • Competency in the use of Primavera P6.

Hybrid working is an available option but there will be the requirement to go to site at least 3 days a week.

I’m currently recruiting for a Health & Safety Manager to work for a large civil engineering contractor on Harker Substation upgrade in Carlisle.

Works include earthworks, roads, drainage, concrete structures and piling, followed by fit-out works.

Reporting to the Project Director, the Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for leading all HSEQ matters across the joint venture.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and maintain positive measures to raise standards, ensuring the company complies with OHSAS 18001 obligations, health & safety legislation and all minimum health & safety standards (MSS).
  • Support the monitoring of sites through the audit process, in a proactive manner to address any issues.
  • Establish a system to ensure that all personnel on site, to work or to visit, have received a site induction briefing before going on site. Ensure the induction is regularly updated to reflect current site hazards/conditions.
  • Ensure effective investigations take place to prevent accidents & incidents, whilst ensuring effective learning from all events is presented to the head of HSEQ for wider business distribution.
  • Ensure a construction phase health & safety plan is prepared and accepted before works start and make sure the plan is continually updated.
  • Introduce initiatives to improve standards and ensure safe working, whilst focusing on the proactive side of health & safety management.
  • Identify, promote and where required, implement health & safety best practices.
  • Participate in supporting the business with regards to tenders and pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQ’s) and tender submissions, as designated by the Senior Safety Manager/Preconstruction Team.
  • Work with the supply chain to establish effective relationships and ensure continuous improvement in delivering safety solutions.
  • In cases of difference of opinion on health & safety issues, lead negotiations to reach the best solution for the project.
  • Ensure a schedule of weekly health & safety inspections is established and monitored, including operational staff, senior management and support services.
  • Ensure effective assessments of the site are carried out prior to the start of any work, focusing on potential hazards e.g. services, access, ground conditions, etc.

The Candidate:

  • Previous experience as a Health and Safety Manager working on a major infrastructure project
  • Degree or equivalent in Environment Management / Sciences / Sustainability and/or completion of IEMA Foundation Certificate
  • NEBOSH General or NEBOSH Construction Certificate or NVQ L3 in Health and Safety

Package:

  • 40 hours a week
  • £70k – £72k plus package
