The post holder will be accountable for delivering a section of the Dualling of the A465 Areas 5 & 6. The job holder will take full responsibility for the supervision of labour, plant and sub-contractor within their section of work. They will also ensure the management and quality aspects of the project meet the client’s and company’s performance expectations.
Take responsibility for ensuring the highest possible environment and health and safety standards are adhered to at all times.
Reporting to: Project Manager
Key Responsibilities:
- Set a personal example and promote best practices in safety, quality and environment.
- Supervision of sub-contractors
- Able to read drawings and construct them, work to a program and keep written (and preferably electronic) records.
- Communicate with all site teams including engineers, QS’s, safety officers and clerk of works to ensure full understanding of information.
- Monitor and control labour, plant and materials.
- Ensure daily diaries and allocation sheets are up to date.
- Implement and promote safe systems of work and overall activities.
- Contribute to the program through the line manager.
- Work with engineers on setting out information and details of technical information, contributing to the preparation of method statements.
- Attend and contribute to weekly meetings with the site team regarding safety, progress, expenditure, costs and program.
- Ensure toolbox talks, safety alerts and method statement briefings are carried out.
- Ensure all statutory weekly or daily inspections are carried out e.g. weekly safety and environment tours.
- Assist development of the workforce and identify training requirements.
- Ensure a high standard of quality on the works to at least meet the specification requirements.
Specific Safety Responsibilities:
- To take reasonable care for the safety of themselves and of any other person who may be affected by what they do or fail to do at work.
- To co-operate with their employers or any other persons in the performance of their statutory duties.
- Not to misuse or interfere with anything provided in the interests of health, safety or welfare.
- Have the ability to evaluate safety practices and procedures to recommend methods of improvement.
The Candidate:
- Previous experience working on large highway schemes.
- Relevant CSCS & SMSTS cards and First Aid Certificate
- Experience managing a team of labourers and semi-skilled workers.
- Ability to influence and persuade others to build working relationships with both internal and external customers at all levels.
- Flexible approach with an ability to adapt to tight and often changing deadlines.
- Ability to prioritise and organise own workload and that of others with a collaborative approach to work.
- Understanding of health & safety legislation with regard to a construction site.
- Infrastructure/Highways construction background is essential.

Environmental Manager Role Overview:
The Environmental Manager will be responsible for overseeing all environmental aspects of the major construction project. You will ensure compliance with environmental regulations, promote sustainable construction practices, and minimise the environmental impact throughout the project life cycle. In this key role, you will collaborate with the project team, subcontractors, and external stakeholders to implement and promote environmental best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Environmental Compliance: Ensure that all project activities comply with relevant UK environmental laws, regulations, and construction standards. Regularly review and update environmental policies.
- Environmental Impact Assessments: Conduct thorough environmental impact assessments (EIA) and develop strategies to mitigate the environmental effects of construction.
- Sustainable Construction Practices: Champion sustainable practices like waste reduction, energy efficiency, recycling, and responsible sourcing of materials.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor on-site environmental performance, conduct regular audits, and submit detailed environmental reports to project stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
- Training & Awareness: Provide environmental training and awareness programs to all site personnel, emphasizing the importance of environmental protection.
- Incident Management: Lead investigations into any environmental incidents or non-compliance issues, ensuring that corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with local authorities, regulatory agencies, clients, and the community to address environmental concerns and promote transparency.
- Documentation & Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of environmental audits, compliance documents, and incident reports to ensure quick accessibility and compliance.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement in environmental management systems, identifying areas for enhanced environmental performance.
Environmental Manager Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven experience as an Environmental Manager within the construction industry, particularly in large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of UK environmental regulations, laws, and best practices in construction.
- Expertise in environmental impact assessments and developing strategies to mitigate environmental risks.
- Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with environmental management software.

I’m looking for a Document Controller to join one of our clients.

Working on a major project in the area, the roles and responsibilities will include:
- Set up, copy, scan and store documents
- Create templates
- Manage requests for documentation
- File documents in physical and digital records and ensure appropriate storage
- Review and maintain the accuracy of the records, editing where necessary to ensure they are up to date
- To liaise with and distribute project-related information with all levels of the project team and potentially external parties
- Manage the processes around documentation within the organisation
- Maintain confidentiality around sensitive documentation
- Prepare ad-hoc reports on projects when required.
- The company uses a popular and well-known document control software package. If you have all-round good IT knowledge and experience with any document control software, it is a system you should be able to use easily.
The role is an excellent long-term opportunity for someone. The project itself will go on for more than 3 years.
