Sphere Solutions are currently looking for an experienced Design Manager to work for a tier-one contractor in the London area.
The Job:
The construction of the HS2 station’s civils infrastructure is underway here at Old Oak Common site, baseline design has been accepted by the client and the appointment of the suppliers to build the integrated station is ongoing.
There are several roles available in the design team with the potential to cover off-site highways and structures, on-site highways and infrastructure or station-building structures and fit-out.
The purpose of the role is to manage on behalf of the BBVS JV a timely delivery of quality-assured detailed designs by the Consultant and directing subcontractors to achieve the same through the following phases of development.
Reports to: Senior Design Manager
Interfaces:
- Internal: Engineering / Construction / Controls / BIM / Technical Assurance / Stakeholder Management
- External: HS2 / Network Rail / Local Authorities / Utility Providers / Consultants / Works Package Subcontractors
Accountabilities:
- Develop with Consultants technical design packages to the project program and key dates
- Manage delivery and coordination of all technical aspects of assigned Work Packages and the discipline interfaces
- Manage the coordination between design and construction teams
- Support the Engineering, BIM and Technical Assurance teams to achieve Code 1 Acceptance of all Design Deliverables
- Contribute to the strategy and direction of the Design and Design Management team
- Lead the work packages design management activities
- Assisting in managing the NEC contract by input on relevant matters
- Reviewing schedules and agreeing impact of change on construction and other design packages
- Review and check against contract requirements to ensure compliance, quality/completeness, design intent, constructability, interfaces with other work packages
- Promote value engineering and innovation
- Manage obtaining of approvals of HS2’s Technical Authority, Network Rail’s and other third parties, where necessary
The Candidate:
- Engineering Degree/Architectural Degree or career-proven abilities
- Professional Body Membership, or working towards
- Design Management / Engineering Management
- Communication in English (Verbal & Written)
- NEC3 contract experience
- Rail station design/delivery experience
- Prior people manager
- 5 years of civil engineering and/or rail experience
