Case Study – A Difficult Situation Turned Right!

Background

After finding himself in a difficult personal situation, Berchel started working night shifts at a warehouse. Feeling fatigued and having no work-life balance, he decided that he needed to make a change to improve his employability skills.

The Challenge

Berchel approached The Restore Trust, a not-for-profit social enterprise working in the South-West to provide advice, guidance, skills, qualifications, and confidence to people experiencing barriers to accessing training and employment opportunities. Many of their clients have challenging needs related to homelessness, mental health problems, drug/alcohol dependency, and offending behaviour.

“The Restore Trust has helped me out, starting a completely new career. I didn’t have the resources to achieve my green CSCS card on my own.”

The Solution

While working at the warehouse, Berchel completed his CSCS qualification with The Restore Trust and undertook an NPORS certification, which delivers the necessary skills, knowledge, and understanding to communicate and guide vehicles safely and effectively.

This led Berchel to secure a role through Sphere Solutions Ltd as a Gates-Person. Working with our recruitment consultant Anton, who explained the role and provided all the necessary PPE, Berchel says that Anton went above and beyond to ensure that he was prepared for his new role.

“Working with Sphere has been fantastic. Anton came to meet me on my second day. He helped me with gathering my medical consent forms and comes to the site a lot to check on me and how I’m getting on. A lot of agencies will get you a placement and then you never hear from them again. Not many agencies care about their staff as much.”

The Result

Berchel has now been working with our client Sir Robert McAlpine at their Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus site in Bristol for three months and is hugely enjoying his experience.

He says, “I like how Sir Robert McAlpine treats their staff. Everyone that I have met has been respectful and really friendly and can have a laugh. The site is well-organised, and I’ve got a great setup here with my little cabin. I work alone a lot, but other staff check up on me often. In the next six months, I am hoping to complete a CPCS Telescopic qualification and my driving license to open up wider opportunities in the future.”

Sphere are very happy to have helped Berchel in his search for a new role. Berchel has a fantastic approach to life, given the situation he has found himself in and we would like to wish him all the best for the future.
