Commercial Manager / Commercial Lead – Major Infrastructure Project (South Wales)

Location: Margam, South Wales
Salary/Package: Competitive + Excellent Benefits

We are recruiting for a Commercial Manager / Commercial Lead to join a leading main contractor delivering a major substation build in South Wales. This is a senior-level role suited to someone with extensive commercial management experience in infrastructure, civil engineering, utilities or energy projects.

This is an outstanding long-term career opportunity to work with a highly respected contractor on a high-profile infrastructure scheme, overseeing commercial performance and leading a substantial commercial team. You will report directly to the Commercial Director and play a key role in the successful delivery of a major programme of works.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the commercial function for a major substation construction project
  • Oversee cost control, forecasting, budgeting, and contract administration
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, negotiation, valuations and payments
  • Ensure commercial and contractual compliance across all project activities
  • Build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and internal teams
  • Drive commercial strategy to maximise project value and minimise risk
  • Mentor, support and lead a growing commercial team
  • Provide regular reporting to senior leadership including the Commercial Director

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor stepping up
  • Strong background within civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities or energy projects
  • Solid knowledge of NEC contracts (preferred)
  • Track record of leading or supporting commercial teams
  • Strong commercial acumen with excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage complex, large-scale projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Driven, proactive and capable of taking ownership at a senior level
