Contracts Manager – Groundworks

Location: Devon & Somerset
Salary: £65,000 – £80,000 + Package
Employment Type: Permanent

We are seeking an experienced Contracts Manager with groundworks and/or civil engineering experience to join a long-standing regional subcontractor, managing their residential sites across Devon & Somerset.

Reporting To

Construction Director

Key Responsibilities

• Overall management of designated sites, ensuring compliance with health & safety regulations and maintaining on-site standards
• Manage site teams, direct labour, and subcontractors
• Ensure all plant, materials, and PPE are fit for purpose and available
• Maintain both short- and long-term programmes to deliver projects on time
• Liaise with internal and external H&S consultants, advisors, and auditors
• Regularly update clients on progress and attend project meetings
• Ensure timely delivery of sites within budget
• Maintain close communication with commercial and technical teams
• Source and recruit site teams and labour, managing ongoing training and HR matters

Requirements

• Experience at Contract Manager level within groundworks (housing and commercial considered)
• Strong programming and planning knowledge
• Health & safety management expertise, including RAMS and COSHH; relevant SMSTS ticket required
• Commercial and financial understanding
• Full UK Driving Licence (sites across Devon & Somerset)

Package

• Salary dependent on experience: £65,000 – £80,000
• Company vehicle or car allowance
