Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Director to take full strategic responsibility for the delivery of a major £100 million education construction project in South Wales.
This role sits at the top of the project leadership structure and will suit a Project Director with a strong background delivering large, complex projects for a Tier 1 main contractor. You will oversee the project from pre-construction through to completion, ensuring successful outcomes across programme, commercial performance, quality, health & safety, and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Overall leadership and direction of a £100m+ education project
- Full accountability for programme, budget, risk, and project governance
- Lead and mentor the senior project team, including Project Managers and Commercial leads
- Act as the primary point of contact for the client, funders, and key stakeholders
- Ensure best practice in health & safety, quality assurance, and sustainability
- Drive value engineering, cost control, and commercial strategy
- Oversee design management, procurement strategy, and supply chain performance
- Report progress at board and senior leadership level
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience as a Project Director or Senior Project Lead on large-scale construction projects (£50m+)
- Strong background working for a Tier 1 or large regional main contractor
- Experience delivering education, public sector, or complex building projects
- Excellent commercial awareness and contract management knowledge
- Strong leadership, client-facing, and decision-making skills
- Relevant construction qualifications (Degree or equivalent)
- Chartered status (MCIOB, MAPM, MRICS or similar) desirable
