Sphere solutions are currently recruiting for a Quality Manager to work on a multimillion pound project on the A465 motorway in South Wales. We are constantly recruiting and keen to touch base with the best possible opportunities. See below for the following vacancy.

Our client is a large tier 1 civil engineering contractor based in South Wales, and have approached us with the urgent requirement of recruiting a Quality Manager on a permanent basis. The project involves a 17.3km motorway expansion located near Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil and Hirwaun. The splitting of the motorway is important for the improvement of mobility and connectivity in Wales, as well as the revival of the local economy post COVID-19. The expansion of the A465 represents an important investment that will enable the generation of a set of benefits for local companies that participate in the development of the work.


The Head of Quality/PTU Quality Manager shall be responsible for the implementation of the Quality Management System.

  • To promote the pursuit of excellence and continuous improvement of FCC’s ISO 9001 Management System

  • Mentor and supervise the activities of other departments and project staff where required

  • Ensure that the Quality Policy is written & understood by all staff

  • Provide adequate resources to ensure the effective implementation of the Quality Management System

  • Provide all employees under his/her control with adequate support, supervision, information, instruction, and training to enable them to carry out their work

  • Establish effective lines of communications and consultation on all quality issues with all employees under his/her control

  • Promote the continuous improvement of the quality management system

  • Monitor and review the implementation of the objectives and performance targets

  • Use the requirements of the management systems as a minimum standard to be achieve, seeking improvements where practicable

  • Ensure that staff receive or have access to quality management systems and policies are kept informed of all developments and issues

  • Ensure that staff receive suitable training appropriate to their roles and responsibilities of the Quality Management System

  • Ensure Management Reviews of the Quality Management Systems are undertaken annually

  • Ensure Quality Manager’s and Quality Team meetings are implemented

  • Ensure PTU and Document Control Meetings are implemented

  • Develop & implement the project quality audit schedule & ensure audits are carried out as planned

  • Develop an audit status log & ensure all issues raised are closed out

  • Liaise with third party auditors where required

  • Develop customer relations regarding quality issues raised & manage expectations of client effectively

  • Review project KPI’s & identify area of improvements and trends

  • Liaise with the Project Director where required to ensure full implementation of the Quality Management System

  • Review Inspection & Test Plan for the project where required

  • Put in place an effective PTU handover regime in place that meets best practice requirements

  • Ensure the handover of appropriate data to ASR that meets the handover program

The Candidate:

  • Must have highways experience

  • Ideally resides locally to the area

  • Experience in managing similar size projects in the past

  • Comfortable communicating with all levels of management and clients
