Small Works Manager

Location: Exeter
Salary: £65,000–£70,000 + Package
Type: Permanent, Full-Time

About the Role

Sphere Solutions are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Small Works Manager to join a rapidly growing regional contractor in Exeter.

This is a unique opportunity to establish and lead a newly created Small Works division, taking ownership of its growth, profitability, and long-term success. You’ll play a key role in shaping the future of the business, building a team, developing client relationships, and securing new opportunities across the South West.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and lead a high-performing Small Works team
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients
• Identify, tender for, and secure new projects and business opportunities
• Oversee projects through the full lifecycle, from pre-construction to completion
• Set team objectives, monitor performance, and review project delivery
• Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards
• Manage Health & Safety compliance across all projects
• Resolve contractual issues and support successful commercial outcomes
• Lead recruitment, training, and development of the Small Works team
• Take ownership of the division’s operational and financial performance

About You

• Proven experience managing small works or minor construction projects
• Strong network of industry contacts and potential clients
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and contracts
• Experience with profit and loss (P&L) responsibility
• Strong commercial awareness and business development skills
• Relevant construction management qualifications
• Full UK Driving Licence
