Role Overview

Sphere Solutions are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to deliver commercial management for a major redevelopment in Plymouth. You will drive financial performance, manage sub-contractor accounts, maintain budget control, and ensure contract compliance within a live site.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide financial/contractual forecasts, monitor spend against approved client budgets, and maximise cash flow.
  • Prepare and review monthly cost reports, track key performance trends, and manage contract change control procedures.
  • Conduct physical measurement of works and agree valuations with clients and subcontractors.
  • Oversee full sub-contractor lifecycle, including enquiry issuance, tender comparison, price negotiation, order placement, and final account agreement.
  • Assess and mitigate commercial risks in accordance with corporate risk management policies.
  • Act as a key client-facing commercial point of contact (excellent communication skills essential).

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Degree, HNC, or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or a commercial discipline.
  • Proven experience in a Quantity Surveyor or similar role.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts.
  • CSCS Card (White PQP/AQP).
  • Full UK Driver’s License.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • Due to the nature of the role, candidates will be required to obtain security clearance and hold a passport from an eligible country.

Sphere Solutions are working with an established construction and infrastructure contractor to recruit an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team on a large scheme based in Plymouth.

The successful candidate will play a key role in cost planning, procurement, contract management and financial control, working closely with clients, contractors, consultants and supply chain partners.

The Role

  • Preparing detailed cost estimates, budgets and cost plans
  • Managing project costs and maintaining effective financial control throughout the project lifecycle
  • Reviewing and negotiating contracts, subcontracts and variations
  • Managing procurement processes and evaluating subcontractor and supplier tenders
  • Monitoring project progress and forecasting final costs
  • Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities
  • Preparing interim and final payment applications and valuations
  • Producing financial reports, cost analysis and commercial documentation

About You

  • We’re looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in construction, infrastructure or a similarly complex environment.
  • Ideally, you will have 5+ years’ Quantity Surveying experience
  • HNC, HND, BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement and commercial management
  • Experience in cost planning, forecasting, valuations and financial reporting
  • Experience using quantity surveying software such as CostX, QS Suite or PlanSwift
  • Professional membership/accreditation such as RICS or CIOB is desirable
  • Due to the sensitive nature of the site, successful candidates will be required to obtain BPSS security clearance.

  • The BPSS clearance process can take up to 8 weeks
  • Candidates must hold a passport from a NATO or MISWG member country
  • Candidates must have resided in the UK continuously for the previous 5 years
