I am working on a rare and exciting opportunity for a Trainee or Assistant Estimator.

You will work closely with and be responsible to an experienced Estimator and assist with all commercial and pre-construction functions of the Exeter office. Projects range from £100,000-£2million. They work within healthcare, educational, commercial, industrial and small-scale residential.

Duties will include:

  • Obtain quotes/prices from the supply chain
  • Read and interpret drawings for measurements
  • Assist with tender documentation
  • Coordinating and answering enquiries
  • Commercial administration

If you are an Estimator with experience working within a different sector, please do not hesitate to apply.

Experience within the industry would be preferable, IT Skills & knowledge are a must. Knowledge and an understanding of the pre-construction process is essential.

I am working with a well-run Interiors specialist to recruit an Office Manager.

The Office Manager will work closely with the Managing Director of the business to ensure the office & business is run smoothly.

As well as ensuring the day-to-day operations in the office are running smoothly, you will also play an important part in the financial aspect of the business which will include producing invoices, chasing client payments, managing subcontractor timesheets and more.

The appointed person will oversee the daily operations of the office, ensuring efficiency and professionalism in all aspects of administrative support.

You will be required to help assist in the quotation of drylining, suspended ceiling, flooring and decoration works – with the assistance of the team.

Other duties will include:

  • Supervise and coordinate office activities and operations
  • Manage office supplies inventory and place orders as necessary
  • Handle scheduling, appointments, and travel arrangements
  • Assist in HR functions such as recruitment, onboarding, and performance management

Please only apply if you possess the following:

  • Proven experience in Office Management or a Senior Administration role, preferably within construction or similar
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Familiarity with basic HR functions
  • Confidential and professional phone etiquette
  • Strong attention to detail

On offer is a salary ranging from £28,000-£30,000 depending on experience. You will also be included in the company bonus scheme. The office hours are Monday-Friday 8am-4.30pm.

My client are a well-known name within house building, to assist a busy commercial department permanently.

As their Commercial Assistant, you will undertake the administration of Customer Care payments, assist in recovering costs, raise orders, assist the buying team and subcontractors, maintain documents for payments and PO’s, and much more….

Suitable candidates must possess the following:

  • Must be educated to at least GCSE level with strong Mathematical and IT ability
  • Experience working in a commercial business environment, and house building experience is advantageous.
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office, Excel & Outlook
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced and changing environment where priorities can change daily.
  • Use of COINS is desirable

Our client, a maintenance & construction contractor are recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their South West operations.

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will manage the financial aspects of contracts including sub-contractor procurement, invoicing and payment management, through to the final account. Projects will be varied and include; fire stopping, retrofit – PV installations and general planned maintenance works across social housing and commercial clients.

Specific duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Supply chain procurement
  • Ensure tenders are prepared by measuring and calculating rates
  • Measure and prepare cost estimates for contracts and tenders
  • Ensure all work issued has labour targets to return agreed margins
  • Ensure production targets are issued and contract CVR’s are set
  • Valuations and final accounts

Suitable applicants will possess the following:

  • Previous experience in a quantity surveying role, ideally within contracting, maintenance or fire-stopping
  • Knowledge of the financial and contractual elements of projects
  • Able to manage a contract from inception to final account, understand all costing and expected budgets
  • Relevant industry qualifications
  • Full driving license
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Good MS Office knowledge

Commercial Team:

The Candidate:

  • Require NEC Contracts experience
  • Wants someone local who can work on-site 4 days a week
  • I would take someone with sub-contractor experience, procurement, and reporting
  • Previous experience working on energy projects is advantageous but not essential
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally within the construction or engineering sectors.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, tender processes, and cost control mechanisms.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Relevant degree or professional qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
  • Membership with a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS) is desirable but not essential

Duties

  • Managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects.
  • Ensuring projects are completed within the projected budget.
  • Providing financial and commercial advice to the project team.
  • Preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities.
  • Monitoring and controlling costs throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identifying, analyzing, and developing responses to commercial risks.
  • Managing subcontractor procurement, payments, and final accounts.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and quality standards.

The Package:

  • £45k – £55k
  • Company car or car allowance (Car grade C)
  • 40 hours a week

We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a national contractor

Managing a range of projects across Cornwall. Sectors include health, education, defence and vary in value up to £50m. You will join an experienced team and take financial charge of projects, mentoring and managing junior commercial team members.

The role:

  • Vet, appoint and negotiate subcontract packages for projects
  • Pre-contract pricing and agreement project costs, submission of cash flow forecasts
  • Prepare and agree CVR’S / interim valuations and agree on final accounts
  • Managing financial accounts and reporting to Senior Management on the project performance
  • Monitor progress, secure payments, if necessary, issue formal notices / contractual claims
  • Attend project support meetings

 Requirements:

  • Educated to degree level in Quantity Surveying, although other equivalent qualifications may be accepted such as HNC/HND if backed up with extensive work experience.
  • Experience in procuring major works sub-contractor packages
  • Good knowledge of measurement and valuations and standard forms of contract.
  • Ability to negotiate with clients/sub-contractors
  • Experience of value engineering
  • Exposure to resolving disputes
  • Good negotiation skills and commercial awareness.
  • IT skills specifically of MS365 and COINS ideally, not essential.
