Key Responsibilities
As a Trainee Estimator, you will support the pre-construction team in producing accurate and competitive cost estimates. Your duties will include:
- Assisting in interpreting project requirements and specifications
- Supporting quantity take-offs and cost estimates for materials, labour, and plant
- Visiting sites as and when required
- Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to gather pricing and quotations
- Assisting in the preparation and submission of tender and bid documentation
- Maintaining accurate records of estimates, quotes, and bid-related files
- Contributing to value engineering exercises and pricing strategies

Candidate Criteria:
- Educated to a higher level (A-Level / BTEC preferred but not essential, as training is provided)
- Prior knowledge of construction

- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Positive, self-motivated attitude with a willingness to learn
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team

Salary: Up to £65,000 DOE
We are working with a well-established contractor who is seeking an experienced Estimator to join their team, specialising in groundworks projects across the South West.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional with a proven background in estimating within the construction and/or civil engineering sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing accurate cost estimates for groundworks and civil engineering projects
- Analysing drawings, specifications, and project requirements
- Liaising with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure competitive and accurate tenders
- Supporting the commercial and operations teams throughout the project lifecycle
- Identifying risks, opportunities, and value engineering options
Requirements
- Proven experience as an Estimator
- Experience within groundworks, civil engineering, or development would be advantageous

You will join an experienced commercial team, reporting directly to a Commercial Manager. Working with an extensive client base—predominantly large and small house builders—this is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified Quantity Surveyor to join a forward-thinking team of like-minded professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing sub-contractors to maximise costs and margins
- Assisting with ongoing estimating duties
- Commercial and financial management
- Valuations, reconciliations, and final accounts
- Reporting to head office and travelling to site as required
About You
- Ideally qualified with a relevant construction-related qualification
- Extensive experience within the construction industry

Responsibilities
- Manage infrastructure and civil engineering works, including roads, footpaths, and S278 schemes
- Oversee groundworks, site clearance, bulk excavation, and cut & fill operations
- Supervise foundations, sub-structures, and ground floor installations
- Coordinate drainage and utility services installation
- Manage construction of retaining walls and external works such as paving and tarmac
- Ensure all work is completed safely, on time, and to quality standards
Requirements

Sphere Solutions are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor, ideally from a Civils/Groundworks background, to join a very successful sub-contractor based in Exeter with a market-leading presence in Devon, Cornwall & Somerset. Our client works with a number of housing developers and contractors across the region and, with several long-standing relationships, they have an extremely busy portfolio of work.
Duties will include:
- Produce Valuation matrices and Daywork schedules
- Review contract documentation and drawing issues to ensure all parties hold the correct information
- Produce a monthly application for payment to the client in line with the client’s calculation schedule
- Verify accurate payments for sub-contractors
- Be aware of all costs relating to all project spend
- Responsible for cost changes as a result of new drawings
- Liaise with the client to evaluate daywork before an order is raised
- Ensure all works are carried out in line with detailed procedures to achieve ISO/SMAS/CHAS/Achilles certification
The successful applicant should ideally be qualified to degree level or similar and have extensive experience within the construction industry, preferably within a groundworks or civil engineering background.
