With an exceptional programme of works and forthcoming sites in mind, they have a need for a Health and Safety Advisor to join their South West operations and work with the SHE team advising on all health and safety matters, sites will be across South Devon and Cornwall

The successful applicant will promote and uphold a positive health & safety culture on site and provide specialist expert construction health and safety knowledge to the business. Suitable candidates will have good experience in implementing a positive health and safety culture within a construction/contracting environment.

The role will include:

• To advise and maintain safe systems of work across all sites, monitoring compliance with all legal bodies and regulatory requirements
• Produce Construction phase plans
• Assist in writing up internal Health and Safety documentation, safety policies and strategies
• Undertake risk assessments and method statements
• Work with the client to understand requirements and offer a collaborative approach on site
• Working with the site team to uphold a positive health and safety environment
• Ensure all works are carried out / set to achieve ISO/SMAS certifications

Requirements:

• Proven experience in a similar role within the construction sector
• NEBOSH general or construction
• Experience of CDM, Risk assessment, Construction Phase Plans, Fire Safety, Waste Management, Manual handling
• Full valid driving licence

Ideally from a civil engineering/utilities background to join a successful local contractor covering sites across Cornwall.

You will join an experienced commercial team, reporting to a Commercial Director, financially managing several sites, and ensuring costs are monitored and adhered to.

This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified Quantity Surveyor to join a forward-thinking team of like-minded professionals.

 Key Responsibilities:

• The role will involve the procurement of sub-contractors, and tender enquiries as well as assisting with ongoing estimating duties.
• Commercial/financial management, valuations, reconciliations, and final accounts.
• You will be required to report to the head office and travel to the site.

Key Requirements:

• Qualified with a suitable construction-related qualification or experience
• Have similar experience at quantity surveying level managing several projects
• A full driving license will be required,
• Proficient IT skills in particular Excel.

Office-based, but visiting site/s as and when required, you will join a commercial team and assist with all commercial functions of quantity surveying.

Projects are varied and can be summarised as minor civils projects, working for local councils, civil engineers, contractors Etc. You will be exposed to pricing / tender enquiries, sub-contractor procurement, valuations, site measurements, and invoicing through to the final account process. With a structured training programme, this is a great opportunity for someone looking to embark on a commercial career within Cornwall.

What you will need:

• A desire and enthusiasm to learn
• Basic site / commercial experience will be advantageous
• Good IT skills are a must, Excel is essential
• Ideally educated to BTEC level in a construction-related subject, but not essential there is the opportunity to become suitability qualified with ongoing training and support
• You will need a full driving license as the head office is based in Helston and there will be regular travel to site/s across Cornwall.
