Senior Authorised Person – High Voltage (Up to 33kV)

Devon / Cornwall based – with travel

Permanent | Full-Time

We are looking for an experienced Senior Authorised Person (SAP) to join a growing High Voltage team, working across major construction, EV infrastructure and renewable energy projects.

The Role

You will be responsible for the safe operation and delivery of HV systems up to 33kV, including:

  • HV switching, isolation, earthing and energisation
  • Preparing and approving RAMS, switching schedules and safety documentation
  • Managing HV permits and operational procedures
  • Overseeing installation, testing and commissioning
  • Providing technical leadership to engineers and subcontractors
  • Liaising with DNOs, ICPs, NERS, clients and principal contractors

About You

  • Minimum 3 years’ HV connections experience on large construction sites
  • Proven SAP / Authorised Person experience up to 33kV
  • Strong knowledge of HV switching and safety procedures
  • Experience within DNO / ICP / NERS environments
  • Knowledge of EV charging and Solar Farm connections
  • Able to read HV single-line diagrams and technical drawings
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence

M&E Design Manager – Tier 1 Main Contractor | South Wales Location: South Wales – projects typically across Bridgend, Swansea, Carmarthenshire and surrounding areas Salary: Competitive, depending on experience Sector: Construction / Building / M&E Employment: Permanent ## The Opportunity A leading Tier 1 main contractor is looking to appoint an experienced M&E Design Manager to join its well-established and highly experienced team in South Wales. This is an excellent opportunity for an M&E Design Manager, or an experienced Building Design Manager with strong demonstrable M&E experience, to take a key role in the delivery of technically complex construction projects. Projects will typically be located across Bridgend through to Carmarthenshire, with individual project values ranging up to approximately £100m. The successful candidate will take ownership of the technical design management of all M&E systems, working closely with clients, consultants, specialist subcontractors and the wider project team to ensure designs are coordinated, compliant, buildable and delivered to the required standards. Importantly, this is a long-term career opportunity with a very established team and a contractor with a strong pipeline of work across South Wales. ## Key Responsibilities – Lead and manage the M&E design process from pre-construction through to project delivery. – Take responsibility for the technical design management of all mechanical and electrical building services. – Review, challenge and coordinate M&E designs to ensure they are technically compliant, coordinated and buildable. – Manage design development, technical submissions, approvals and design programmes. – Coordinate M&E design information with architectural, structural and other specialist disciplines. – Work closely with consultants, M&E subcontractors, suppliers and internal project teams. – Identify and resolve technical design issues and interface risks. – Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation, regulations, standards and project requirements. – Monitor design progress against programme and ensure key deliverables are achieved. – Attend and lead design coordination meetings where appropriate. – Provide technical input into procurement, construction planning and project delivery. – Support the project team in managing change, design development and technical queries. – Maintain effective communication between the design team, commercial team and site management. – Ensure appropriate design records, documentation and approvals are maintained throughout the project lifecycle. – Contribute to the successful delivery of major construction projects, potentially up to £100m in value. ## About You The ideal candidate will have a strong background in M&E design management within the construction industry. We are open to candidates from either of the following backgrounds: – An M&E Design Manager / Building Services Design Manager by trade; or – A Building Design Manager with strong and demonstrable experience managing M&E design and building services on major construction projects. You will ideally have experience working for a Tier 1 main contractor, major subcontractor, consultancy or specialist M&E contractor and understand the complexities of managing building services design within a major construction environment. You should have: – Proven experience in M&E Design Management or significant M&E design coordination experience. – Strong technical understanding of mechanical and electrical building services. – Experience managing design on medium to large-scale construction projects. – A good understanding of design coordination, technical compliance and buildability. – The ability to manage consultants and specialist subcontractors effectively. – Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. – The ability to identify technical issues and drive them through to resolution. – A proactive and collaborative approach to design management. – A relevant construction, engineering, building services or design-related qualification is desirable. ## Why Consider This Opportunity? Sphere Solutions are working with a well-established renewables contractor to recruit an Electrical Engineer with solar experience across both the commercial and domestic sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Works will include commercial solar, new build residential solar, battery storage & BESS, commercial EV charging, and HVAC.
  • Install, test, and commission equipment.
  • Carry out AC & DC electrical wiring, including inverters, isolators, and distribution boards.
  • Install mounting systems, conduit, trunking, and cable containment.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues during and after installation.
  • Complete certification and compliance paperwork (EIC, EICR).
  • Ensure installations comply with BS 7671, Part P, OZEV, and MCS standards.
  • Deliver excellent customer service on-site, working collaboratively with project teams.

About You

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience within the commercial sector.
  • ECS Gold Card.
  • BS7671 Wiring Regulations qualification.
  • Solar experience in either domestic or commercial projects.
  • EV experience is preferable.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent).
  • Full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.

This is a full-time permanent role, based from the Plymouth office, with travel and occasional working away required on larger projects. An uplift will be paid when working away.
