Sphere Solutions are currently recruiting for a supervisor, to work for a large overseas contractor on the new Velindre Cancer Centre on a permanent contract.

Role Purpose:

The role of Site Supervisor Structures & Landscape will report to the project’s Works Manager. Will be to coordinate construction operations and oversee workers within their package of work. The role holder will be responsible for the day-to-day running of their work package and for ensuring work is carried out safely in accordance with the latest drawings, specifications, and programmes.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Engage with the workforce, supply chain and other stakeholders to assist in achieving both the projects and corporate health and safety targets and objectives.
  • Follow instructions from the Works Manager and report to him.
  • Prepare and provide work permits for daily tasks that may require it.
  • Ensure that those employed on their work packages have the requisite levels of competency to undertake their roles and tasks.
  • Lead supervisory meetings and forums for their own work packages and keep their workforce and supply chain updated with current information and requirements.
  • Provide feedback from the workforce and supply chain to the project’s leadership.
  • Ensure that their work packages are conducted in accordance with the Company’s procedures and standards and that safe systems of work are produced and approved prior to starting work.
  • Manage the use of appropriate plant, tools and equipment, ensuring that it is fit for purpose and inspected, maintained and quarantined as appropriate.
  • Manage the supply chain within their work packages on a daily basis, coordinating their works and interfaces.
  • Ensure that emergency response resources are readily available and that workers understand the requirements of the emergency plans.
  • Ensure that all incidents are reported appropriately, assist with incident investigations and preserve environments, locations or evidence that may be needed for incident investigation.

Essential Criteria:

  • Minimum experience of 5 years in a similar role;
  • CSCS card – Supervisor (Gold) or Manager (Black)
  • CISRS Basic Scaffold Inspection card (if inspecting Basic Scaffolding)
  • CITB Site Manager Safety Training Scheme SMSTS qualification if involved with supervising Temporary Works:
  • CITB Temporary Works Supervisor qualification
  • Relevant experience and knowledge of the nature and complexity of the work they are being appointed to supervise (e.g. earth support, scaffolding, formwork, falsework, etc).
  • if involved with supervising Lifting Operations: CPCS or NPORS Crane/Lifting Supervisor card
  • Relevant experience and knowledge of the nature and complexity of the lifting operations they are being appointed to supervise (basic, intermediate or complex lifts with tower cranes, mobile cranes or non-cranes (excavators, telehandlers, hoists, MEWPs, etc)).
  • Relevant experience and knowledge of the nature and complexity of the plant and equipment operations they are being appointed to supervise if involved with supervising plant and vehicle movements:
  • Relevant experience and knowledge of the nature and complexity of the types of works at a height they are being appointed to supervise (e.g. on or from scaffolding, hoists, towers, low-level platforms, rope access, etc).

In addition to the above:

  • Ability to assume responsibilities for decision-making on-site
  • Excellent verbal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of the relevant structures and civil engineering statutory procedures with particular reference to Health and Safety
  • Proficient with MS Office, in particular Excel.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering or equivalent
  • Knowledge of the Spanish and/or Portuguese Language.
  • Knowledge of the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001

Sphere Solutions are currently recruiting for a logistics manager to work for a large contractor at the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff.

Role Purpose:

The Logistics Manager is responsible for the coordination of the collection of waste, transportation to its due skips, ensuring the proper segregation of the waste and managing their authorized disposal out of the project. The role holder is required to develop and maintain robust relationships with suppliers, vendors, manufacturers and retailers and manage the entire order cycle to ensure project operations run smoothly and that materials and equipment are managed efficiently.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate, agree and manage contracts with suppliers, vendors, manufacturers and retailers.
  • Plan and organise shipments, and transportation out of the site.
  • Organize the labours appointed to support him in his duties.
  • Plan and resolve issues regarding waste management.
  • Operate IT systems to manage timings, costs and stock levels.
  • Coordinate the work with the logistics manager for deliveries and liftings.
  • Report to the works manager.
  • Work with procurement and commercial teams on product selection as required. Plan and analyse budgets and expenditures.
  • Plan and oversee future stages. Oversee logistics and transport services.
  • Plan and analyse budgets and expenditures.
  • Comply with all legislation regulations and company policies.
  • Analyse data to assess performance, discover logistical problems and devise plans for improvements..
  • Ensure health and safety, quality and environmental standards are followed and adhered to.
  • Liaise with client representatives in a professional manner with regard to quality, safety and environmental monitoring.
  • Leading the collaboration intent and charter with the wider project team, in all aspects of the project.
  • Keep track of quality, quantity, stock levels, delivery times, and costs to optimise efficiency.

Essential Criteria:

  • Bachelors/Masters Degree in Engineering/ Manufacturing, Logistics / Supply Chain or equivalent qualification.
  • CSCS Card – Professionally Qualified Person (White) or Construction Manager (Black)
  • 10 years’ experience in a similar role (Logistics Management within the Construction/ Engineering industry).

In addition to the above:

  • Proven record of successful distribution and logistics management.
  • Proficient in standard logistics software.
  • Attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Logistics Management System Implementation and Auditing.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Software packages: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple items..
  • Excellent ability to negotiate to achieve the best price from suppliers.
  • Establish, manage and monitor standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Logistics requirements within the organisation are adhered to.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Extensive Construction knowledge.Membership of a related professional body e.g. Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT)10+ years’ experience in a similar role (Logistics Management within Construction/ Engineering industry).Knowledge of the Spanish and/or Portuguese Language.
  • Knowledge of the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001

We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a national contractor, managing a range of projects across Cornwall. Sectors include health, education, defence and vary in value up to £50m. You will join an experienced team and take financial charge of projects, mentoring and managing junior commercial team members.

The role:

  • Vet, appoint and negotiate subcontract packages for projects
  • Pre-contract pricing and agreement project costs, submission of cash flow forecasts
  • Prepare and agree CVR’S / interim valuations and agree on final accounts
  • Managing financial accounts and reporting to Senior Management on the project performance
  • Monitor progress, secure payments, if necessary, issue formal notices / contractual claims
  • Attend project support meetings

 Requirements:

  • Educated to degree level in Quantity Surveying, although other equivalent qualifications may be accepted such as HNC/HND if backed up with extensive work experience.
  • Experience in procuring major works sub-contractor packages
  • Good knowledge of measurement and valuations and standard forms of contract.
  • Ability to negotiate with clients/sub-contractors
  • Experience of value engineering
  • Exposure to resolving disputes
  • Good negotiation skills and commercial awareness.
  • IT skills specifically of MS365 and COINS ideally, not essential.

The role:

  • Assist the Site Manager in planning and coordinating of all construction activities.
  • Monitor and enforce safety regulations and compliance with company policies.
  • Supervise and coordinate subcontractors and direct labour on site.
  • Ensure that work is progressing according to programme timelines.
  • Quality control, inspection of works and Customer Care.

What you will need:

  • Experience at a junior / assistant level within a commercial sector, they are not looking for someone who is already at Site Management level
  • Knowledge of modern construction methods, in particular steel frame would be advantageous.
  • Ideally a trade or HNC background, with a valid SMSTS, First Aid at Work, ideally CSCS also.
  • Excellent drive and enthusiasm
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and documents.
  • Health & Safety-conscious and familiar with safety regulations on site.
  • Full driving license required.

Suitable candidates will have good experience in both refurbishment and new build Be confident in managing sub-contractors and on site HSE to coordinate works efficiently and hand over quality projects ranging from £500k – £1m. Projects will include; universities, schools, industrial units & commercial projects.

  • SMSTS, CSCS and FAW will be required as will a full DBS check.
