We are looking to speak with construction Buyers with a passion for materials and plant procurement in the Cornwall area.

We are working with a leading civil engineering contractor to recruit a Buyer. This organisation is going through a steady growth period and now is the perfect time to join this experienced team and establish a procurement strategy.

Duties will include:

  • Create, maintain & build positive and effective relationships with new and existing supply chains.
  • Procurement of materials, plant & equipment.
  • Take-offs.
  • Certifying material invoices.
  • Support the pre-construction tendering process and commercial team.
  • Best value strategy, rebates, and ensuring a cost-effective method is established and maintained.

Suitable candidates:

  • Construction experience in a buying role – material, plant, and site equipment.
  • Good negotiation skills, with a natural ability to forge lasting relationships.
  • Effective IT skills, Excel is mainly used.
  • Good local and national supply chain knowledge.

Senior Quantity Surveyor

Somerset / Devon

We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a regional contractor covering the Somerset & Devon area. With a pipeline of work and a large new build care home about to commence, we are keen to catch up with suitably qualified Quantity Surveyors who have experience in financially managing Design and Build projects Circ. £12m.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Procurement of sub-contractor packages
  • Cost planning and reporting
  • Overseeing site measurement and preparation of valuations
  • Prepare and agree on interim valuations and final accounts
  • Report to Senior Management on the project performance

Requirements:

  • Educated to degree level in Quantity Surveying, although other equivalent qualifications may be accepted such as HNC/HND if backed up with extensive work experience.
  • Good negotiation skills and commercial awareness.
  • D&B / JCT form of contract knowledge

For this role, you will need to have D&B / new build construction experience and be comfortable financially managing projects over £12m.

Due to site locations, a full driving license will be required. Travel to Devon and Bristol will be required.

Good local supply chain knowledge will be advantageous.

As the Quantity Surveyor for Planned Works, you will be responsible for, overseeing all financial aspects of Planned Works projects, progressing tenders for accurate pricing, and maintaining strong client relationships.

Key responsibilities:

  • Accurately estimating and determining the quantities of materials, labor, and equipment required for tenders.
  • Monitor and control project costs throughout the process
  • Identify any areas to improve margins.
  • Assist in the procurement process by preparing tender documents, evaluating bids, and negotiating contracts with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Final Account Preparation, ensure that all costs are accounted for and properly documented.

Key Requirements:

  • Full UK Driving License
  • Previous Quantity Surveying experience in Planned works
  • Degree / HNC (or equivalent) in related field
  • CSCS Card
  • Willing to travel across East Midlands

I am currently working with a renewable energy construction company to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong Civils background on a Permanent basis.

Reporting directly to the office near Exeter with some nationwide travel, overseeing general civil engineering projects.

This position would suit a Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to take the next move into Commercial Management

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the site is running to budget with regular liaison with the procurement and commercial team.
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for civil engineering projects, including materials, labour, and equipment.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to develop cost-effective project plans.
  • Monitor project budgets and financial performance, identifying cost-saving opportunities and potential risks.
  • Negotiate contracts, change orders, and variations.
  • Cost analysis and value engineering
  • Site measurements, valuations and final accounts

Key Requirements:

  • Previous Solar Farm/Renewable Energy/Civil Engineering knowledge and experience
  • Must have a strong Contract Management background with SMSTS, CSCS and FAW
  • Contractual knowledge and understanding
  • Proficient use of MS 365 and project planning software
  • Nationwide travel is required

  • Accurately estimating and determining the quantities of materials, labor, and equipment required for projects.
  • Monitor and control project costs throughout the process and identify any deviations.
  • Assist in the procurement process by preparing tender documents, evaluating bids, and negotiating contracts with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Assess the value of work completed by contractors and subcontractors and prepare payment certificates.
  • Identify and assess potential risks that may impact the project’s cost and schedule.

Sphere is currently recruiting an experienced Groundworks Quantity Surveyor to be based in Exeter, on behalf of our client a reputable housebuilder, known for their quality in creating beautiful homes across the UK.

Working with management teams to prepare for future developments, procuring the Groundwork and Infrastructure packages for various housing projects across the South West.

Responsibilities:

  • Sub-contractor procurement
  • Preparing/collating tender information, reviewing bids and comparing prices
  • Detailing build costs, including infrastructure costs and new start-up appraisal
  • Monitor infrastructure project costs, budgets, and cash flow.
  • Conduct regular site visits, cost variations, and drawing take-offs.
  • Liaison with design and technical over-specification for sustainable build methods
  • Assist Adoptions with inspections, ensure groundworks obligations are carried out
  • Conduct thorough cost analysis and value engineering.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all financial transactions and project documentation.
  • Carry out regular valuations, payments and final accounts.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the Groundworks/Civils sector.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts and cost control
  • Effective communication and negotiation abilities, with the capability to build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects simultaneously while working to tight deadlines.
  • Full UK valid Driving Licence
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field
