Engineering Manager (CEM)

A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Engineering Manager (CEM) to join our rail and civil engineering team in the Wales region supporting long term and secured Infrastructure projects and major frameworks, throughout Wales.

 

The Client:

A busy and fast paced business unit involved in a range of civil engineering works in a variety of sectors to include rail (bridges, embankments, stations, platforms, tunnels etc.), Environment Agency, Local Authority etc. The business unit are involved in multi-disciplinary civils projects across the Wales region, whether one off tendered projects or projects within our long term framework / contract agreements with key clients including both Asset Management and Infrastructure Projects.

Existing contracts include CP6 infrastructure projects, minor works and Environment Agency frameworks with works typically including bridge re-construction/replacement, upgrades and refurbishments, station work (platforms, access for all etc.), structures including bridges, tunnels, footbridges, flood repair and alleviation to name just a few examples.

 

The Role

As Engineering Manager (CEM) you will be working within the framework and project delivery teams, responsible for managing the design delivery process for both the internal design team and external designers, primarily dedicated to schemes within the local framework but also providing support to other projects in the Wales region.

You will be responsible for managing the engineering process throughout the project lifecycle, working closely with the Project Manager and CRE(s), reporting to the Contracts Manager for the associated project/ programme of works. You will typically be responsible for:

 

  • Review the remits
  • Develop and agree the relevant engineering processes and deliverables for the complexity and scale of projects to enabling the right solution to be provided.
  • This will be undertaken and agreed with the associated Network Rail DPE of the works, in accordance with Governance of Railway Infrastructure Projects (GRIP)
  • Prepare and manage design reviews
  • Arrange and attend meetings as required with the client, designers and colleagues to secure design and implementation.
  • Review project generated documentation including CPPs, WPPs, TBs, Specifications, and drawings.
  • Providing approval for construction methodologies
  • Brief out changes to standards to the project team(s) throughout the lifecycle of the project/ programme of works.

Requirements

  • To excel in this position, you will have been accepted as a CEM (Contractors Engineering Manager) within a contracting organisation & have extensive railway project experience.
  • BSc / MEng / MSc in Civil Engineering
  • Chartered Member of a relevant and recognised professional industry body i.e. ICE
  • Experience as CEM / Contractors Engineering Manager in a multi-disciplinary rail contracting environment.

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join a regional contractor covering the Devon area. With a pipeline of work and a large new build care home about to commence, we are keen to catch up with suitably qualified Project Managers who have experience of taking the lead on projects Circ. £10m.
As the number one of site, you will take responsibility for the following;

  • Manage all site operations, site team and sub-contractors.
  • Lead the planning and programming of the project.
  • Reporting regularly to senior management team
  • Managing all documentation relating to Health & Safety and compliance
  • Liaise with the client / employers’ agents.
  • Deliver projects within the budget, deadline and to a high-quality standard.
  • Monitor progress against established targets.

For this role, you will need to have good new build construction experience at Project Manager level, be used to delivering projects in excess of £10m. The usual site tickets will be required, a valid CSCS card, First Aid at Work and SMSTS.
Good project planning experience will be required, along with excellent IT skills. Due to site locations, a full driving licence will be required. Good local supply chain knowledge will be advantageous.

Your role will involve carrying out a full planning function from pre tender stage through to handover.
