Our client is a leader in complex infrastructure projects, delivering high-performance solutions for data centres and civil engineering projects across the UK and Europe. We seek a highly experienced and technically skilled MEP Lead to join our team for a major £400 million data centre project in South Wales. This is a unique opportunity to work on a high-profile, cutting-edge project that requires extensive mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) expertise in the data centre sector.

Role Overview

The MEP Lead will oversee all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing aspects of the data centre project, ensuring the successful delivery of MEP systems on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data centre construction, a strong technical background, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the MEP delivery from concept to commissioning, overseeing the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning phases of the project.
  • Technical Oversight: Provide expert guidance on MEP systems design, ensuring that all systems are optimized for reliability, efficiency, and scalability, in line with data centre standards and client requirements.
  • Manage the MEP budget, ensuring cost-effective procurement and resource allocation. Develop and maintain schedules for all MEP activities to align with overall project milestones.
  • Ensure that all MEP works are completed to the highest standards, coordinating inspections and quality checks to maintain compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
  • Lead a team of MEP engineers, subcontractors, and consultants, ensuring clear communication, accountability, and performance across all MEP disciplines.
  • Champion a strong health and safety culture on site, ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and legislation throughout all phases of the project.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for MEP-related matters, liaising with the client, project director, design teams, suppliers, and external consultants.
  • Identify potential risks to MEP deliverables and develop mitigation strategies to address issues proactively and efficiently.
  • Oversee the testing, commissioning, and final handover of MEP systems, ensuring smooth integration and full operational readiness.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in MEP leadership roles within construction, with at least 5 years in data centre or mission-critical facility projects.
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or equivalent, preferred. Relevant certifications in project management or MEP systems (e.g., PMP, LEED, or BREEAM) are advantageous.
  • Strong technical understanding of data centre MEP requirements, including cooling systems, electrical infrastructure, fire suppression, HVAC, and controls.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale MEP projects, with strong organizational and budgeting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex project challenges, with strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Familiarity with BIM software, MS Project, and other project management and engineering tools.

We are looking for an experienced Design Coordinator or Design Manager to join one of our clients.

An award-winning client and highly successful building contractor working on a very prestigious major project in Cardiff

Due to the award of this key scheme, they are looking for someone to work alongside the lead Design Manager on the scheme which will run for approximately 3 years.

  • You will be exposed to all elements of the scheme and play a key role in the overall delivery of the technical design. Specific roles and responsibilities may include:
  • Coordinating the work of architects, engineers, and other design professionals to ensure that all design elements are integrated effectively.
  • Reviewing and approving the design drawings, specifications, and calculations to ensure they are in line with project requirements.
  • Communicating with clients and stakeholders to understand their needs and ensuring that the design meets their expectations.
  • Ensuring that the construction project complies with all relevant health and safety regulations, building codes, and environmental standards.
  • Overseeing the development of budgets and schedules for the design phase of the construction project.
  • Identifying and addressing any design or technical issues that may arise during the construction phase and working with the project team to find solutions.
  • Reviewing and evaluating change requests to ensure that they are in line with project requirements.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all design-related activities and providing regular status reports to project stakeholders.
  • Supporting the construction team with technical guidance and design information during the construction phase.
  • Participating in project closeout activities, including conducting final inspections, preparing final reports, and ensuring that all design documentation is complete.

This role would suit a design coordinator, a manager from a housing or main contracting background, or someone from an architectural background looking to get into main contracting.
