Quantity Surveyor – Groundworks & Civil Engineering

We are recruiting for an established Groundworks and Civil Engineering contractor working on both residential and commercial schemes across the South West. This role offers a varied workload covering pricing, procurement, and surveying, with the opportunity to be involved in projects from tender stage through to final account.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions.
• Procure subcontractors and suppliers, including negotiating terms and managing contracts.
• Measure and value works on-site, including variations.
• Monitor project costs against budgets and provide regular reports.
• Assist in the preparation of interim applications and final accounts.
• Maintain close working relationships with site teams, clients, and supply chain partners.
• Ensure compliance with contractual and commercial obligations.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within groundworks, civil engineering, or a related construction sector.
• Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Proficient in measurement, cost reporting, and contract administration.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across the South West.

Quantity Surveyor

Location: Redruth
Type: Permanent
Salary: £50,000–£60,000 + Package

Sphere Solutions are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor, ideally from a Civils/Groundworks background, to join a very successful sub-contractor based in Redruth, with a market-leading presence in Devon, Cornwall & Somerset.

Our client works with a number of housing developers and contractors across the region, and with many long-standing relationships, they have an extremely busy portfolio of work.

Duties will include:

• Produce valuation matrixes and daywork schedules
• Review contract documentation and drawing issues to ensure all parties hold the correct information
• Produce a monthly application for payment to the client in line with the client’s calculation schedule
• Verify accurate payments for sub-contractors
• Be aware of all costs relating to project spend
• Manage cost changes as a result of new drawings
• Liaise with the client to evaluate daywork before an order is raised
• Ensure all works are carried out in line with detailed procedures to achieve ISO/SMAS/CHAS/Achillies certification

Requirements:

• Ideally degree-qualified (or similar)
• Extensive experience within the construction industry
• Preferably from a groundworks or civil engineering background

Salary will be based on experience and qualifications.
