Assistant Project Manager – Civil Engineering / Water Projects

Location: Taunton
Salary: £40,000–£60,000 + Impressive Benefits Package


About the Role

We are looking for a motivated Assistant Project Manager to support water infrastructure projects across Devon, Somerset, and Dorset. This is an exciting opportunity for candidates with some site experience—such as site engineers, graduate engineers, or those looking to step up towards a project management role. You will work closely with the Project Manager, supporting site operations, liaising with clients, and ensuring smooth project delivery.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager in coordinating civil engineering and water infrastructure works
  • Support site teams and monitor production, visiting sites regularly
  • Act as a key link between the client and the site, providing updates and reporting issues
  • Help plan, record, and programme works using Microsoft Project
  • Ensure compliance with NEC contract requirements
  • Support health, safety, and environmental standards on site
  • Assist with cost management and reporting as required

Requirements / Skills

  • Some site experience preferred (site engineer, graduate, or agent level)
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts is essential
  • MS Project experience desirable
  • SMSTS certified (preferred, but can be trained)
  • Temporary Works knowledge preferred (training can be provided)
  • Experience with water infrastructure projects, rivers, culverts, AMP7 water, or coastal works highly desirable
  • Strong communication, organisational, and teamwork skills
  • Enthusiastic, keen to learn, and proactive on site

Site Manager – Civil Engineering / Water Projects

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Site Manager to lead and deliver water infrastructure projects across Devon, Somerset, and Dorset. This role focuses on the maintenance and management of debris screens on 11 sites, contributing to a total project spend of approximately £2.5m. Debris screens prevent blockages in rivers and streams, helping to reduce flood risks and maintain water flow.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage debris screen projects across multiple sites
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise all civil engineering and water infrastructure works
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget
  • Lead self-delivery teams and manage own trades on site, not just subcontractors
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Report progress and liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders

Requirements / Skills

  • SMSTS certified
  • Temporary Works knowledge preferred (training can be provided)
  • CSCS card & First Aid at Work certificate (minimum)
  • Experience in self-delivery civil engineering projects
  • AMP7 water, canals, or general water infrastructure experience highly desirable
  • Strong leadership, communication, and site management skills
